Historic Alagar Malai koil which exists 24 km north to the Madurai City on the traditional Trade route of Uraiyur of Chola country to Madurai of Pandya Country. The Jain Cave in Alagarmalai is having Pre historic paintings Jain beds with 2000 years Brahmi and 1000 years old Vattezhuthu Inscriptions. The famous Alagar temple here was constructed by Early Pandya, Chola, Late Pandya and Vanathirayar kings, expanded during Vijayanagar and Nayak period with more than 100 stone inscriptions. The Ramayana paintings of 17th Century exist in the Vasantha Mandapam and Nayak Mandapams are done during Nayak period is very unique.
