Vikramangalam

This historic Vikramangalam village which exists 25 km west of Madurai (Melakkal to Usilampatti Road) on the traditional trade route of Chera country is flourished well as important Trade centre from 11th Century. This village is having more than 1000 years old Madhurothaya Eswaramudaiyar Siva temple was constructed by Pandya Kings with the support of Chola. This temple is having many stone inscriptions of late Pandya kings. On the way to Mudalaikulam, the hillock namely Undankal is having Jain caves with Tamil Brahmi Inscription of 2000 years old.
