Thangachimadam, Ramanathapuram district

Thagachi Madam is a coastal Village of Ramanathapuram District near Rameswaram. It’s famous for the coastal ecosystem (Neithal), fishing practices and Jasmine Cultivation. Sea sand Jasmine flower and Jasmine Saplings are cultivated here, which in turn transplanted in Madurai. Jasmine Garland making will happen after the cultivation for local sales. Fresh fishes are available in the village from the early morning fishing in the sea. Visiting Thangachimadam was a profound journey into a unique and vibrant local culture. The jasmine garden was a sensory delight, showcasing various types including the rare “amber jasmine,” each filling the air with an enchanting aroma. Local women skillfully crafted jasmine garlands, used in weddings, festivals, temples, and even made into soaps and perfumes. Notably, jasmine from Thangachimadam is also exported to Bangalore and Madurai.
